What timezone is Slovakia in? |

Slovakia uses the Central European Time just like Germany, Italy or France, which is usually 6 hours ahead of the time in New York. Look in the upper-right corner of this page to see what time it is right now in the whole country. The 0th meridian passes through Greenwich near London, UK. At this place, in winter, the sun is at its zenith exactly at noon. In summer this happens at 1pm. One day has 24 hours and the Earth 360 meridians. This means, that 15 degrees (360 divided by 24) to the East, the sun appears directly overhead one hour before it reaches its zenith in Greenwich. The capital of the Czech Republic Prague, using the time zone one hour ahead of London, is located approximatively at this longitude. The whole Slovakia is lying eastwards from Prague. Bratislava at 17 degrees and Eastern Slovakia at over 22 degrees. Yet it is still using the same Central European Time as Prague winter sun at its zenith at 11:52am in Bratislava and at 11:32am in Michalovce. Like the other countries of the European Union, Slovakia is using Daylight Saving Time in summer, when the clock is shifted by one hour ahead. This happens between the last Sunday of March and the last Sunday of October. This means that the sun is its highest position at 12:52pm in Bratislava. Comparing to other places in the world, at Slovakia's noon, Los Angeles has 3am, New York 6am, London 11am, Berlin and Paris 12pm, Moscow 2pm, Tokyo 7pm and Sydney 8pm.
