I just found this site and I think it is great. I am planning a trip there and I would like to know if anyone knows the steps in tracing your family roots.Where would I go to find the birth registers of my mother and father. Please help me if you can. Thanks Anna Mae

I must admit that I'm very impressed with the efforts the people of Slovakians are doing to keep people from all walks of life in touch. I'm an African who has a Slovakian girlfriend and have been very fortunate to have visited your country twice this year. Staying in Kosice was really fun and I would do anything to go back to this beautiful country.Although blacks aren't a common site in certain parts of the country, the locals really made me feel at home. This is a country I'd readily reccommend to anyone.

I am looking for Joe Klucho's e-mail address. He has retired somewhere in Trencin city or region. He used to work as postmaster for Chardin, Ohio, USA until retirement...he found lost relatives in Trencin area and made 8 trips to Slovakia, before deciding to retire there. He also volunteered for "liason/connection" work for the Slovak Embassy in Washington, D.C. I need to ask him pertinent questions regarding my "ex-patriot" card application proceeding through the embassy in Bratislava. Also looking for an English speaking driver to drive me from Kosice/Barca Airport to Kezmarok. This September 5th at 2:35p.m. my plane will be arriving at the Kosice Airport. Please e-mail me. D'akujem vel'mi mnoho.

What a marvelous opportunity to network with so many fine people, all sharing the same rich heritage and connection with my grandparents HOMELAND. I kiss the ground, everytime my plane lands on Slovakian soil, literally. Only you people would understand the emotional ties and internal spiritual depth that wells up when you are back home to Slovakia.

Family roots are in Zemplin and Saris Counties. Had the privilege of visiting Slovakia during the independence day celebration (1993)--a dream come true. My son was teaching there at the time and has been back twice since then--business and vacation. He reports tremendous progress since 1993--loved what's happened in Kosice and what's happening in Bratislava as regards urban renovation. My hope is that the politicians subordinate their petty ambitions for the good of the nation and press foreward for both NATO and EU membership.

Happy to see your site and to read nice comments about Slovakia. I am slovakian, living in Marseille, I left five years ago, followed my husband to Marseille. I miss very much our people, their warm hearts, our beautiful country...Twice a year I have to go home, if not, I become sick... only my husband can talk about it how it is hard for me sometimes. I hope we will be back one day... Stretla som zopar francuzov, ktori navstivili Slovensko. Boli nadseni z ludi, z ich otvorenosti, uprimnosti.Mala som z toho velmi dobry pocit. Good luck/Vela stastia

Slovakia is a wonderful country, with beautiful people, a fantastic culture and dumb politicians. At least in 1997 they were (the politicians I mean). Things are improving though and Slovakia is still the best kept secret in Europe. I am returning this year, once again to experience the fantastic culture, marvelous people and, of course, the world class wines and of course (pardon the spelling" house + lokce (goose and potato crepes). Lets not forget the slivovice, marhoulovice and all of the other rockets fuels they produce (sure clears the sinuses) Valmy Dobré in Slovensko

I am looking for my relatives, who I am sure still live in Panovce(Pany)a suburb of Kosice(Kassa)or near there in Slovakia. My father Emery Kepes was born in Panovce in 1923 to Edward Kepes and Anna(Toth)Kepes. My maternal great-grandfather, was Andrew Toth and my great-grandmother was a Bobko. Great-grandfather Andrew Toth apparently was a deacon for the Catholic Church and was good friends with the Priest. Andrew Toth had plum orchards and would take wagon loads of plums to the Tokay wine distillery every year. My grandmother Anna, as a little girl would take money collected by the church and give it to needy people as directed by the Priest. My grandfather, Edward fought for the Austrin-Hungarians in WW1 and met Anna when he returned to Kosice with Anna's brother, George during military leave. Anna's first child died during childbirth. My family migrated from Kosice soon after my father was born, sometime in 1924. My father says the name Kepes has alot of history behind it and is very old. My father, Emery is 77 years old and I would like to tell him I found our relatives before he passes. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. I would like to find a relative, who would also be a Pen Pal or could E-mail me. I plan on visiting Kosice one day and spending a quality vacation.
