Korean TV is coming to Slovak cable

Wed 18 Aug 04, 17:11    RSI

Broadcasting of the South Korean TV channel Arirang in Slovakia could become the first bridge between the Slovak and Korean cultures. Slovak Culture Minister Rudolf Chmel and the deputy speaker of the National assembly of the Korean republic, Park Hee Tae, came to this conclusion at their Tuesday's meeting. Apart from broadcasting to Slovakia the TV station is also interested in presentation of Slovak culture in South Korea. Cultural cooperation of the two countries could follow cooperation in the economic area, which develops especially thanks to the investments of the companies Samsung and Kia in Slovakia. The South Korean TV station Arirang has been in the program offer of the largest Slovak cable TV operator in Bratislava and in Kosice since June 1.

Arirang TV station broadcast 24 hours a day different kinds of programs from news, travel and music, education and language programs to films of Korean production. The decision of the cable TV company was motivated by the fact that approximately 900 South Koreans with families should soon come to Slovakia, since a Kia car plant should be built here. There are already South Korean employees and management in Slovakia, most notably in Samsung.
