PSA Peugeot-Citroën to Build a Plant in Trnava, Slovakia

[PSA - Paris] PSA Peugeot Citroën will build a new assembly plant in Slovakia to extend its European production base after 2006.

After having considered a number of sites in various Central European countries, the Group has decided to build the plant in Trnava, Slovakia, 45 kilometers from Bratislava, the country's capital.

Trnava was chosen because of its many advantages, notably:

Its position in the centre of Europe.
The 190-hectare building site that is easily accessible by rail, highway and navigable waterway.
The possibility of creating a supplier park next to the plant.
The region's manufacturing tradition and the availability of well-educated labour.
Its proximity to major markets in which the Group is rapidly expanding.

The plant will have annual capacity of 300,000 cars when brought on stream in 2006. It will employ 3,500 people and will be dedicated to the production of small, platform-1 vehicles. Total investment cost for this new plant will be ~700 million.

The new site will bring the Group's manufacturing base closer to markets where it is rapidly strengthening its presence. In the six Central European countries (Croatia, Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Slovenia), PSA Peugeot Citroën increased its market share to 12.7% in 2002 from 5% five years ago.

The new plant will extend the Group's manufacturing base in Europe, which includes nine assembly facilities in France, Spain, the United Kingdom and Portugal, in addition to plants operated through cooperation agreements with other carmakers One such agreement has been signed with Toyota for the joint development and production of small, entry-level vehicles to be assembled, beginning in 2005, in a plant currently under construction in Kolin, Czech Republic.

PSA Peugeot Citroën is pursuing a growth strategy targeting sales of more than four million vehicles from 2006, compared with 3,267,000 in 2002 and 2,100,000 in 1997.
