Wasted investment in Mochovce nuclear power plant

Thu 20 Oct 05, 07:48    RSI

More than one quarter of the machinery already acquired for the as yet-incomplete third and fourth blocks of the Mochovce nuclear power plant, are not serviceable, reads a Pravda daily commentary. The fact that nearly 4,000 machines worth14.6 million euro are outdated was discovered by Slovakia's electricity utility Slovenske elektrarne (SE) in the spring of this year. At the time, the company was reassessing the quality of supplies acquired in 2001 from its main supplier, Skoda Praha. "It is outdated machinery, for which neither the suppliers nor the service facilities exist any longer. That is why we are preparing to sell it," said SE spokesman Rastislav Petrech.
