Kukan: Slovakia to back Czech Candidacy for UN Security Council

Wed 26 Oct 05, 09:04    RSI

Slovakia will back the Czech Republic's bid to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in 2008-2009, said Foreign Affairs Minister Eduard Kukan after meeting his Czech counterpart Cyril Svoboda on Monday. The Czech Republic hopes to succeed Slovakia, which was chosen on October 10 as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2006-2007. As for migration between Slovakia and the Czech Republic, Svoboda said he saw no reason for granting political asylum in the Czech Republic to anyone from Slovakia. Both foreign ministers also expressed support for the earliest possible entry of Bulgaria and Romania to the EU.
