Food inspectors find retail chains selling repackaged meat

Thu 27 Oct 05, 07:59    RSI

Inspectors from the State Veterinary and Food Inspection examined the quality of meat offered for sale in supermarkets. They found shortcomings in 45 from 313 inspected retail outlets. The most serious violation of the law was the repackaging of meat and its further sale for human consumption, for example as grilled meat. In one Tesco supermarket in Bratislava, the inspectors found in refrigerators more than ninety kilograms of poultry after expiration of the "good thru" date. Up to now, the highest fine that can be issued to a supermarket is 25,000 euro.
