Concert to denounce Neo-Nazi

Tue 15 Nov 05, 08:49    RSI

A concert called "Let's stop neo-Nazi!" took place in Bratislava on Saturday, exactly at the place where 21-year old student Daniel Tupy was murdered by neo-Nazis a week ago. The aim of the concert was to point out the danger of neo-Nazi-motivated violence in Slovakia. Its organisers intended to call on "people who do have feelings and emotions" to take a stance against this threat. The event featured performances by famous music groups. Police kept an eye on the event.

A concert dedicated to student Daniel Tupy who was stabbed to death in Bratislava will be held on Saturday at the place of crime. Slovak musicians and other well-known celebrities have promised to take part at the event at the Tyrs bank of the Danube River. The student died from seven stab wounds. An organised group, allegedly neo-Nazis, attacked him and his six friends. Another youth was seriously injured.

The Student Council of Slovak Universities considers the murder of 21-year-old student Daniel Tupy to be an unjustifiable act against human dignity. Therefore, on Tuesday, November 15, the Council will organise commemorative sessions in all Slovak university towns - Kosice, Presov, Banska Bystrica, Zilina, Trencin, Nitra and Zvolen. Also, the sessions will be organised on the occasion of November 17 - International Students' Day and Slovakia's Fight for Freedom and Democracy Day marking the events of 1989 and the so-called Velvet or Tender Revolution.

The association People against Racism demands the fight against right-wing extremists be put among the priorities of the interior ministry. In addition, its representatives say that they have information that several right-wing extremists are among police and armed forces. According to Daniel Milo, the head of the People against Racism association, no one has put adequate pressure on extremist groups in Slovakia until a 21-year-old student, Daniel Tupy, was murdered. "I hope that the competent bodies will find the murderers. If not, this would mean that murderers can escape without punishment and it could set a dangerous precedent in Slovakia," added Milo. He thinks that the police have shown disregard about similar attacks in the past. Unlike the police, several Slovak private media are offering in total an over EUR 10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the murderer(s) of Daniel Tupy in Bratislava on November 4.
