Commemorations of fall of Communism planned in Bratislava

Thu 17 Nov 05, 08:30    RSI

The Mayor of the Bratislava’s Old Town borough has banned a public assembly called by ultra-nationalist party Slovenska pospolitost – or in English Slovak Togetherness. The demonstration had been planned for this Thursday on Hodzovo Square. Slovenska pospolitost - whose members are known for wearing fascist-style uniforms and chanting racist slogans - planned to hold their demonstration on the anniversary of the fall of Communism in Czechoslovakia, November 17, 1989. Many civic organisations were also planning their own counter-demonstrations at the same time and place.
