New bridge over Morava river will be world rarity

Thu 24 Nov 05, 08:46    RSI

An architectural rarity is to be built over the Morava river! The world's largest wooden pivoting-lifting bridge (which will open in the middle to let river traffic pass) will connect the Slovak border village of Zahorska Ves (Bratislava region) with the village of Angern in Austria, Novy cas daily reports. The lifting bridge, which will be 400 metres long and 12 metres wide, will replace the current ferry-boat service. The project costs will reach 3 million Euros. The idea of building the bridge first arose in 1997. However, at that time, the Austrian side blocked the project. The situation, however, has changed and the construction of the bridge should start in the autumn of 2006.
