No governors elected in first-round of regional elections

Tue 29 Nov 05, 08:28    RSI

In Saturday's Higher Territorial Unit regional elections, none of the candidates in any of Slovakia's eight regions received enough votes to become governor. This is according to the official results of the elections, made public on Sunday by the Central Electoral Commission and the Statistics Office. In order to be elected governor in the first round of voting, candidates needed to receive the support of more than 50 percent of the voters taking part in the election. The second round of voting, which will be held on December 10, will feature the two candidates in each area with the highest number of votes.
