Victims of 1968 Prague Spring occupation to be compensated

Wed 30 Nov 05, 09:46    RSI

Slovak victims of the 1968 occupation of Czechoslovakia by Warsaw Pact military forces will receive compensation through a law which President Ivan Gasparovic signed on Monday. The law also specifies the value of each compensation package. In order to claim the compensation money, forms must be submitted in written form to the Justice Ministry by the end of 2006. According to the data available, the August 1968 invasion of the Warsaw Pact military forces resulted in 26 deaths and 181 wounded. However, the number of victims rose in the following weeks and months as victims succumbed to the injuries they sustained.
