About 3,000 attend second police protest in Bratislava

Tue 06 Dec 05, 08:06    RSI

On Saturday more than 3,000 people showed up in front of the Cabinet Office in Bratislava to support the second police protest rally staged by the police trade union. The head of the police trade union Miroslav Litva who was demoted for having organized the first protest explained that the participants were protesting about their trade union rights being questioned. He said they want the same rules to apply here in Slovakia as in other EU countries. Members of the European Confederation of Police (EuroCOP) and some parliamentary deputies showed up to support the protesters' demands. Interior Minister Vladimir Palko considers the protests of the Police Unions to be politically motivated, aimed at weakening his position as interior minister.
