Tue 07 Feb 06, 08:02 • RSIFreedom of speech is a respected principle but it loses its ethical, context when it is not connected with responsibility. This is the official stance of the Islamic foundation in Slovakia in connection to the publishing of caricatures of the prophet Mohammed. According to its representatives, the freedom of thought and expression of opinion should not become a tool for the defamation of any kind of faith. The Islamic foundation in Slovakia, however, refutes violence and the endangerment of innocent people as an appropriate means of protest. At the same time they appeal to political, religious and cultural personalities to stop the hatred against Muslims. The caricatures were also published in the Slovak daily SME. According to its editor in chief it was not done in support of the Danish daily. “This case has achieved great significance, we wanted our readers to form their own opinion about it,” explained the Editor in chief.
