Slovakia launches new highway-construction project

Thu 16 Feb 06, 08:17    RSI

Neither the shaky political situation nor the announcement of early parliamentary elections should affect the first highway construction project to be carried out via the public-private partnership system, transport officials told Sme daily. The pilot project for a new 30-km-long stretch of highway within the Zilina region using this system was approved by the Government late last year, and is already in its second stage. The total cost of the stretch is estimated at more than 500 million Euro. Multinational companies are interested in the construction of highways under this system in Slovakia. Specialists indicate that discussion over highways could dominate the soon to be launched election campaigns of political parties.
