One Crown breaches 37 per Euro barrier

Fri 03 Mar 06, 08:52    RSI
The Slovak crown broke through the 37 barrier on Wednesday afternoon, hitting its new best-ever value of 36.94 SKK/EUR. Against its reference currency the euro, a UniBanka dealer said that the crown had opened trading on 37.06/37.09 SKK/EUR before firming sharply through the Sk37 barrier at 2 p.m. to its strongest-yet value of Sk36.94. It closed on 36.955/36.965 SKK/EUR. According to the dealer, the crown's current record-high levels are short-lived and the scope for crown firming has been all but exhausted. The crown could appreciate only if the exchange rate of Poland's zloty or Hungary's forint sharply appreciated. Otherwise, the crown will correct itself to weaken above Sk37 per euro.
