What is Slovakia?Slovakia or Slovak Republic is a Republic in the central Europe. It is landlocked, surrounded by Poland, Czechlands, Austria, Hungary and Ukraine. HistorySince 11th century, it was a part of the Hungarian Kingdom, and in the years 1918-1992 (except of a short period of 1939-45) a part of the Czechoslovak Republic. After 1993, it became a sovereign country with its capital in Bratislava. PopulationThe current population of the Slovak Republic reaches 5,400,000 habitants.
Over 80% of the citizens of the Slovak Republic are of the Slovak
nationality, about 10% of Hungarian, and there are some percentages of
German, Ukrainian, Czech, Polish and Ruthenian minorities. There is
a very strong Roma ethnical minority, which, by unofficial sources,
reaches even 10%.
